Helpful utilities for non-technical MiniDisc users.
I am developing new open source ATRAC3 decoding and encoding software, with the initial goal of providing higher quality LP2 audio encoding than the open source atracdenc library used in Web MiniDisc Pro, and eventually higher quality than Sony's commercially available encoders.
Now that I have completed enough research and development to release my initial reference decoder software, I will be adding to the content here. This will include ATRAC technical information, and a full specification of the ATRAC3 bitstream. Additionally, I plan to include computer science and digital audio data structures and algorithms that are not specific to MiniDisc, but are relevant to understanding and working with it.
The eventual goal is for this site to contain enough detailed format specification, digital audio information, and related research that someone could implement their own ATRAC3 decoder or encoder using only this site as a reference.
